2027: KEFAS CAMPAIGN DG CALLS FOR PEACEFUL, ISSUE-BASED CAMPAIGNS
Warns supporters against thuggery, violence, cyberbullying as governorship campaigns begin
The Director-General of the Dr. Agbu Kefas Re-election Campaign Council, Hon. Danladi Baido, has called on supporters of the Taraba State governor to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly as governorship campaign activities commence.
In a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity and spokesman of the Campaign Council, Emmanuel Bello, Baido said political campaigns should not be treated as warfare, stressing that every candidate and political party deserves a peaceful atmosphere to canvass for votes.
He urged supporters and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to maintain decorum, avoid provocation and concentrate on issue-based campaigning that reflects what he described as the positive virtues of Governor Kefas.
“Campaigns are not wars,” Baido said, warning against political thuggery and other forms of pre- and post-election violence.
The campaign DG also drew attention to the state government’s anti-thuggery Executive Order, saying its provisions extend beyond physical violence to conduct on digital platforms.
According to him, social media users participating in political campaigns should avoid cyberbullying, name-calling, false accusations, insults, misinformation, malicious information and false alarms.
“The freedom of speech comes with deep responsibility because the consequences of its breach are equally dire,” he said, urging both younger and older campaigners to be mindful of materials they publish online.
Baido further appealed to APC members to remain steadfast and resist taking the law into their own hands when confronted or provoked by political opponents.
He said the campaign organisation would encourage its supporters to focus on issues and the administration’s record while promoting a peaceful environment for all parties throughout the electioneering period.
The campaign council also appealed to journalists and media organisations to uphold fairness and balance in their coverage of political activities.
Baido described the media as an important partner in promoting peaceful campaigns and assured practitioners that the council would work closely with them throughout the electioneering period.
The statement comes as political parties and their candidates prepare to intensify campaigns ahead of the 2027 Taraba State governorship election.
