NYCN SECURES RELEASE OF THREE INMATES FROM JALINGO CUSTODIAL CENTRE

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Taraba State Chapter, has secured the release of three inmates from the Nigerian Correctional Service Custodial Centre in Jalingo after paying their court-ordered fines.

The intervention, carried out as part of activities marking International Youth Day, was led by the State Chairman of the Council, Comrade Hapson Haruna Babale, during a visit to the custodial centre on Wednesday.

The NYCN delegation was received by the Deputy Comptroller and other officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service at the facility.

The three beneficiaries, comprising two males and one female, had remained in custody after being convicted and given options of fine by the courts.

Speaking on the intervention, Babale said the Council decided to assist the inmates as part of its commitment to supporting vulnerable young people and providing opportunities for rehabilitation and a fresh start.

He explained that the initiative was made possible with the support of the NYCN Taraba legal team, led by Comrade Ambi Nicodemus, Esq., which worked towards facilitating the process leading to the release of the beneficiaries.

Babale said the Council believes that people who have served their sentences or fulfilled the legal requirements for their release should be given opportunities to reintegrate into society and become productive citizens.

The released inmates expressed appreciation to the NYCN Taraba State Chapter for the intervention, describing their freedom as another opportunity to rebuild their lives and reunite with their families.

They pledged to turn over a new leaf, obey the law and contribute positively to their respective communities.

The Council also announced that the intervention would go beyond securing their freedom, as arrangements would be made to enrol the beneficiaries in skills acquisition programmes.

According to the NYCN, the training is expected to equip them with practical skills that could enable them to become economically productive and reduce the chances of returning to activities that could bring them into conflict with the law.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting rehabilitation, restoring dignity and supporting initiatives that give vulnerable youths a second chance to rebuild their lives.
