TARABA SOUTH SENATOR JIMKUTA, PDP CANDIDATE Dr. JESSE CLASH OVER ALLEGED N500M WOMEN EMPOWERMENT FUND
The Senator representing Taraba South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, David Jimkuta, has denied allegations that he received N500 million meant for women’s empowerment programmes in the senatorial district.
The allegation was made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Taraba South, Dr. Jessy Adi Ashumate, during the commencement of his campaign at the weekend.

Ashumate alleged that N250 million was budgeted twice for the training and empowerment of women across southern Taraba through the senator, bringing the total to N500 million.
He questioned whether the purported training and empowerment programmes had been carried out, alleging that official records indicated that the project was still ongoing despite what he described as the absence of the corresponding training programme.

The PDP candidate said his concerns were aimed at demanding accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.
However, Senator Jimkuta, through the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Garleya Gambo Suntai, dismissed the allegation as false, baseless and misleading.
Suntai said neither the government nor any organisation had at any time handed Senator Jimkuta N500 million for women’s empowerment.
He challenged Ashumate to produce evidence of the alleged allocation, including details of when the funds were released, where they were released from and the source of the information.

According to him, the PDP candidate made a vague allegation without providing evidence to substantiate the claim.
Suntai also defended Senator Jimkuta’s record of empowerment initiatives across Taraba South, while questioning Ashumate’s own record of empowerment during his tenure as Commissioner for Finance in Taraba State.
