Former Senator representing Taraba South, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, has called on the Taraba State Government and security agencies to take immediate action to restore peace and protect lives and property on the Mambilla Plateau.
Bwacha made the call in a press release dated September 18, 2026, titled “Mambilla Plateau: Call for Immediate Action,” in which he expressed concern over the continuing loss of lives and disruption of peace in the area.
The former senator said innocent people were being killed, families were being displaced and communities that had lived together for years were now facing fear and uncertainty.
Referencing Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which states that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government, Bwacha said government at every level has a constitutional responsibility to protect citizens.
He called on the Taraba State Government to act with what he described as “urgency, competence, and resolve” by restoring order and guaranteeing the safety of residents of the Mambilla Plateau and surrounding communities.
Bwacha further demanded that individuals responsible for attacks or threats to lives be identified, arrested and prosecuted without delay or selectivity.
He also called for the protection of lives and property irrespective of ethnicity or religion, as well as immediate relief and security for displaced persons, bereaved families and other vulnerable residents.
The former senator stressed that peace efforts must be accompanied by justice, arguing that those responsible for the violence should be brought to account.
“Peace cannot be negotiated with the dead. Justice delayed is justice denied,” he stated, adding that the people of Taraba, particularly residents of Mambilla, deserve full protection from the state.
Bwacha said he stood with the people of Mambilla in their demand for safety, justice and a return to normal life, urging the government to act immediately.
Recent reports have also highlighted renewed security concerns on the Mambilla Plateau, including violence in parts of Sardauna Local Government Area. The situation has attracted calls for strengthened security and protection of affected communities.
Bwacha, a former senator for Taraba South, is currently active in Taraba’s 2027 political contest.
