PDP Moves to Rebuild in Taraba, Urges Members to Remain Loyal Ahead of 2027
JALINGO — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State has called on its members to remain steadfast and loyal to the party despite recent internal challenges and defections recorded within the state chapter.
In a press statement issued in Jalingo, the PDP Taraba State Chairman under the Turaki-led national leadership, Obidah Bitrus, said the party remains intact and focused on strengthening its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bitrus, while reacting to recent political developments within the party, maintained that the defections had not weakened the PDP’s foundation in Taraba, stressing that the party was already taking steps to rebuild and consolidate its grassroots structures.
According to him, the party has commenced a statewide tour to engage directly with members, listen to their concerns and strengthen the party’s structures across the 16 local government areas of the state.
He said the grassroots engagement was part of the party’s broader strategy to reconnect with its members and supporters while mobilising them ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP chairman described the party as a platform that guarantees a level playing field for its members and aspirants, expressing confidence that the party was gradually regaining its strength.
Bitrus also addressed the internal leadership crisis within the party, expressing optimism that the disagreements would soon be resolved.
He said the Turaki-led national leadership of the PDP was committed to resolving the outstanding issues through dialogue and reconciliation, adding that necessary measures were already being taken to bring the various stakeholders together.
The Taraba PDP chairman urged members not to allow the current challenges to create division within their ranks, appealing to them to remain committed to the party as efforts continue to strengthen its unity and cohesion.
He further urged party members, particularly young people who have recently attained voting age, to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Bitrus described the voter’s card as a powerful instrument in a democracy, stressing that citizens can use their votes to determine the leaders they want.
He therefore encouraged eligible citizens across Taraba State to register, obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards and prepare to participate actively in the 2027 electoral process.
The chairman said the PDP’s ongoing statewide consultations, grassroots mobilisation and reconciliation efforts would position the party for a stronger showing in the 2027 general elections.
