Jalingo, Taraba State — The newly appointed Commissioner for Water Management and Aquatic Affairs, Hon. Peter George, has officially assumed duty, pledging to work collaboratively with the ministry’s management and staff to strengthen the sector and improve the lives of residents across Taraba State.
George, who previously served as Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industry, assumed his new responsibility with a pledge to approach the assignment with humility, professionalism and a strong commitment to public service.
Speaking during his assumption of office, the Commissioner expressed appreciation to the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for the confidence reposed in him and for the opportunity to serve in another capacity.
According to him, his transition from the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry to the Ministry of Water Management and Aquatic Affairs underscores the continuing nature of public service and the need to serve wherever one’s contribution is required.
He said he was assuming the new responsibility with respect for the institution and a determination to contribute meaningfully to its mandate.
George described water as a critical resource essential to agriculture, livelihoods, industry, public health and the overall development of communities.

He noted that Taraba State is endowed with significant water resources, stressing the need to harness them effectively to create opportunities, improve productivity and promote human development.
The Commissioner also pledged to work closely with the overseeing Permanent Secretary, Mr. Godfrey Dame, directors, technical officers and other members of staff of the ministry.
He emphasized the importance of teamwork, professionalism and institutional continuity, noting that the success of any commissioner depends largely on the collective efforts of the ministry’s workforce.
George further stated that he was not coming into the ministry with the intention of starting everything afresh, but rather to build on the foundation already established by previous administrations and officials.
“My commitment is simple: to listen, to learn, to collaborate and to deliver,” he said.
He called on staff of the ministry to extend their cooperation and partnership as the new administration seeks to strengthen existing initiatives, address areas requiring improvement and develop practical solutions capable of making a measurable impact on the people of Taraba State.
The Commissioner reaffirmed his appreciation to Governor Kefas for the opportunity to serve, describing his appointment as a new responsibility and a new chapter, while emphasizing that the ultimate objective remains service to the people of Taraba State.
George assumed office as Commissioner for Water Management and Aquatic Affairs following his previous service as Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industry.
