Staff of the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service (TIRS) have completed a five-day capacity-building workshop focused on the new tax reforms, modern tax administration and improved revenue service delivery.
The training, organised by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in collaboration with DANAASH Global Services Limited, was held from Monday, September 21 to Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Dr. Agbu Kefas Conference Hall, TIRS Headquarters, Jalingo.
Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Chairman of TIRS, Brig. Gen. Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (Rtd), FCNA, ACTI, commended NEDC for its investment in human capital and DANAASH Global Services Limited for organising the programme.
Faransa said continuous staff development remained a priority of his administration, stressing that a competent and professionally committed workforce was essential to effective revenue administration.
He urged participants to apply the knowledge acquired to their daily responsibilities and translate the training into improved performance, taxpayer services and revenue administration.
The Lead Partner of DANAASH Global Services Limited, Ali Adamu, appreciated TIRS for providing a conducive environment for the training and expressed confidence that the programme would further strengthen the professional capacity of participants.
A representative of the NEDC State Coordinator also charged participants to put the knowledge and skills acquired into practice for maximum productivity, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to supporting human-capacity development across the Northeast.
The training featured presentations and practical sessions facilitated by senior and experienced tax officers, Magai B. Agyo, Theophilus K. Japheth, Idi A. Ivo, Ali Adamu, Christabel Audu and Gorge Chindo.
The facilitators drew on their experience in tax administration to take participants through key areas, including sub-national tax administration, the 2025 tax laws, personal income tax, effective service delivery, tax debt recovery, withholding tax compliance and taxation of high-net-worth individuals.
Other sessions covered informal-sector taxation, taxpayer services, tax audit, data collection and record keeping, tax investigation, teamwork, work ethics and attitudinal change. The programme also included practical exercises and assessments.
A major highlight of the closing ceremony was the presentation of plaques of appreciation to the State Cordinator North East Development Commission (NEDC), Lead Partner DANAASH Global Services Limited and the Executive Chairman of TIRS in recognition of their contributions to the success of the capacity-building programme.
The five-day workshop concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants.
The training is expected to enhance the professional capacity of TIRS personnel and contribute to more efficient, responsive and effective tax administration in Taraba State.
