The Commissioner for Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, Taraba State, Dr. Augustina Godwin, has flagged off an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training programme for Computer Science teachers across the state.
The training, organised by Peace House Gboko in collaboration with the Taraba State Government, was held at Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Nyamusala, with the aim of strengthening teachers’ digital skills and enhancing the quality of ICT education in secondary schools across Taraba State.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Dr. Augustina Godwin described the initiative as timely and important, particularly as education continues to evolve alongside rapid developments in technology.
She noted that equipping Computer Science teachers with relevant and practical ICT skills would enable them to deliver more effective lessons and better prepare students for the demands of a technology-driven world.
The Commissioner appreciated Peace House Gboko and the facilitators led by Prof. Gbenda Batur-Laha for partnering with the Taraba State Government to support capacity development among teachers, stressing that meaningful partnerships remain essential to advancing the state’s education sector.
She encouraged the participating teachers to take the training seriously, acquire practical knowledge and share the skills gained with their colleagues and students in their respective schools.
Dr. Augustina further reaffirmed the commitment of the Taraba State Government under the leadership of Governor Agbu Kefas to improving teaching and learning through teacher capacity development, technology integration and other ongoing education reforms.
The training featured facilitators who took participants through relevant ICT-related sessions designed to improve their competence and effectiveness in teaching Computer Science.
The event was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, Mrs Rabi Sunday, Directors from the Ministry and the Post-Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), facilitators and Computer Science teachers drawn from schools across the state.
The flag-off marks another step towards strengthening digital education and building the capacity of teachers to effectively equip students with the skills required to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven society in all the geopolitical zones of the state.
