JALINGO — The Taraba Geographic Information Service (TAGIS) has pledged to support the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Jalingo Branch, with land for its proposed secretariat and facilitate access to plots in government layouts for interested lawyers in the state.
The commitment was made on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, when the newly elected leadership of the NBA Jalingo Branch, led by its Chairman, Dr. D. P. Saredau, paid a courtesy and strategic visit to the TAGIS headquarters along Donga Road, Jalingo.
The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between the two institutions, particularly on land administration, documentation and issues affecting the professional interests of lawyers in Taraba State.
Speaking during the visit, Saredau said the delegation was at TAGIS to formally introduce the new branch executives and explore areas of cooperation between the NBA and the agency.
He also raised concerns over compliance with legal requirements in the preparation and processing of land instruments.
The NBA chairman urged TAGIS to ensure that instruments of conveyance, including Deeds of Assignment, are properly prepared by qualified legal practitioners and bear the required lawyer’s seal and NBA stamp before being accepted for the processing of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O).
Saredau further appealed to TAGIS to allocate a parcel of land to the NBA Jalingo Branch for the construction of its operational secretariat, preferably close to the site earmarked for the proposed new High Court Complex at Jenbambu, along Mayo Dassa Road, Jalingo.
He also sought the agency’s assistance in facilitating the allocation of plots within government layouts to interested members of the legal profession.
Responding, the Director-General of TAGIS, Surv. Dr. Joshua Mark Ma’ku, assured the NBA leadership that the agency would consider and support the requests.
Ma’ku specifically assured the delegation that a parcel of land would be allocated to the NBA Jalingo Branch near the proposed new High Court Complex.
He further disclosed that TAGIS would develop modalities for allocating plots within government layouts to interested lawyers through the NBA Jalingo Branch.
On the concerns surrounding land documentation, the TAGIS Director-General pledged to strengthen mechanisms to ensure that certification and documentation processes comply with relevant legal requirements while protecting the statutory role of legal practitioners.
The visit, according to the NBA Jalingo Branch, is expected to deepen institutional cooperation between the association and TAGIS while promoting the welfare, professional interests and operational capacity of lawyers in Taraba State.
