Taraba CAN Launches ₦10bn Fund for 5,000-Capacity Auditorium in Jalingo
JALINGO — The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State Chapter, has launched a ₦10 billion fundraising drive for the reconstruction of a 5,000-capacity auditorium in Jalingo, in what could become one of the association’s biggest infrastructure projects in the state.
The fundraising initiative was unveiled at the conclusion of CAN’s three-day Ministers of the Gospel Conference, which brought together Christian leaders and ministers from across Taraba State.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of the conference, the proposed auditorium is expected to accommodate about 5,000 worshippers when completed.
The communiqué was signed by the Chairman of CAN in Taraba State, Rev. Fr. Williams P. Awoshiri, and the Chairman of the Conference Working Committee, Bishop Dr. Innocent R. Solomon.
Beyond the proposed auditorium, the Christian body used the conference to call for stronger collaboration among government, religious institutions and traditional rulers in addressing some of the challenges confronting the state.
CAN particularly emphasised the need for sustained cooperation in peace-building, conflict prevention, good governance and development, maintaining that religious and traditional institutions have important roles to play in promoting peaceful coexistence.
The ₦10 billion fundraising target is expected to attract attention because of the scale of the proposed project and CAN’s institutional presence across Taraba State.
However, details regarding the amount raised during the formal launch, architectural design and full scope of the project, construction timetable and funding structure were not immediately available.
It was also not immediately clear whether any commitments reportedly made by government officials or political officeholders at the event were made in their personal capacities or represented formal institutional commitments.
The development followed the Ministers of the Gospel Conference in Jalingo, where discussions also centred on strengthening relations between the Church and the state and encouraging religious leaders to contribute to peace, unity and development across Taraba.
