ASUU strike imminent at Taraba varsity, as Gov. Kefas keep mute on 14 days ultimatum.

Taraba state university Jalingo is likely to experience another industrial action following the continue silence of governor Agbu Kefas over non-implementation of the applicable provisions of the ASUU/FGN 2025 Agreement.

Nigerian Tribune reports that Kefas, now the only governor in northern Nigeria that has not approved payments regarding the demands after Gombe state government had approved last week.

Tribune also reports that the ASUU-TSU branch had given the state government a 14 days ultimatum to implement the agreement, and is expected to elapse in two days, on 26th August 2026.

Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, the ASUU branch chairman told our correspondent that, neither verbal or written communication has been sent by the governor regarding the Union’s demand since the ultimatum was issued.

Mbave urged parents, stakeholders and the university community to blame the governor if the 14 days ultimatum elapse on Wednesday without the expected action from state government.

“We have not received any massage from governor Kefas”. The ASUU chairman informed.

“Neither verbal nor, a written message has been sent to us from the governor. After the ultimatum, we had a meeting with the ministry but nothing reasonable was said to communicate to our members.

“Our desire is to ensure excellent academic performance in the university; It’s unfortunate that issues of unstable academic calendar seems not to bother the state government. ASUU- TSU is not just making demands; This is about implementation of the applicable provisions of the ASUU/FGN 2025 Agreement. It’s a directives and resolutions of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union, concerning the continued non-implementation of the applicable provisions of the ASUU/FGN 2025 Agreement.

“On behalf of ASUU -TSU, I wish to call on stakeholders to communicate the governor to act fast. We still have more than 48hrs, but should action is failed to be taken in that regard, I urged parents, students and the university community to blame the governor”. Dr. Mbave continued.

Tribune also reports that the ASUU TSU, had warned that the ultimatum was not an invitation to commence another round of open-ended consultations but a formal demand for compliance and implementation.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mike Dio Jen, Taraba state commissioner for tertiary education did not respond to calls and text messages sent to his mobile phone by our correspondent over the matter.
