Security: Kefas Pledges Full Support as Army’s 10 Division Takes Root in Taraba
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security in the state, pledging full support for the newly established 10 Division of the Nigerian Army as it takes root in Taraba.
The Governor gave the assurance while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 10 Division, during a courtesy visit at the T.Y. Danjuma House in Jalingo.
The meeting focused on cooperation between the Taraba State Government and the Nigerian Army, particularly measures required to ensure the smooth take-off and effective operation of the new Army Division.
Governor Kefas said security remained fundamental to peace, economic growth and sustainable development, stressing that his administration would continue to work closely with the military and other security agencies to protect lives and property across Taraba.
As part of measures to facilitate the immediate operations of the 10 Division, the state government has provided temporary accommodation for Army personnel pending the completion of the Division’s permanent barracks on the outskirts of Jalingo.
The intervention is expected to enable personnel of the Division to commence operations while work on the permanent facilities progresses.
Kefas assured the Nigerian Army that his administration would continue to provide the necessary cooperation and enabling environment for the Division to effectively discharge its responsibilities.
The establishment of the 10 Division is expected to further strengthen the security architecture in Taraba and improve the military’s capacity to respond to emerging security challenges within the state and the wider North-East.
With Taraba sharing boundaries with several states as well as an international border with Cameroon, enhanced military presence is considered important to addressing security threats, protecting communities and improving response capacity in vulnerable areas.
The Governor maintained that sustainable development could only thrive in a peaceful and secure environment, reiterating his administration’s determination to consolidate cooperation with security agencies.
The visit further underscored the growing partnership between the Taraba State Government and the Nigerian Army towards improving security, maintaining peace and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
