TSU Hosts YOUWIN Entrepreneurship Lecture to Equip Students for Business Success

Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, has hosted an entrepreneurship lecture under the YOUWIN for Tertiary Institutions initiative, aimed at equipping students with practical knowledge and skills to establish, manage and grow sustainable businesses.
The programme brought together university management, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Finance, facilitators, sponsors and students from various departments.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Reuben Jonathan. Also in attendance were the DVC Development Services, Prof. Mahmood H. Umar; University Librarian, Dr. Israel Habibu Idris; Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Joseph Atumba; ministry representative and facilitator, Barak Isaac W.; sponsor, A.A. Shamaki; and student representatives.
Speaking during the lecture, Barak Isaac W. said the initiative was designed to provide young Nigerians with entrepreneurial knowledge that would enable them to become self-reliant, create employment and contribute to economic development.
He highlighted seven key foundations of entrepreneurship and stressed the importance of proper planning, identifying opportunities and developing clear business goals.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jonathan welcomed participants to the university and commended the Federal Ministry of Finance, YOUWIN and other partners for supporting the programme.
He encouraged students to start with manageable businesses that could generate income while they pursue their studies, noting that their university years provide an important opportunity to develop skills and prepare for their future careers.
Prof. Jonathan also led the distribution of copies of Successful Nigerian Entrepreneurs to participating students and urged them to read the book and apply the lessons to their personal and professional development.
The DVC Development Services, Prof. Mahmood H. Umar, urged students to use the YOUWIN platform to identify challenges within society and develop innovative, marketable solutions.
He stressed that entrepreneurship goes beyond profit-making, noting that successful businesses can address societal problems, create jobs and contribute to national development.
The University Librarian, Dr. Israel Habibu Idris, and Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Joseph Atumba, commended the organisers and participants, describing the programme as a valuable opportunity for students to gain practical entrepreneurial knowledge.
They encouraged the students to put the lessons from the lecture and the distributed materials into practice as they prepare for life beyond the university.
