JYCDA Condemns APGA Candidate’s Description of Wukari Flyover as ‘White Elephant Project’
The Jukun Youth and Cultural Development Association (JYCDA) Worldwide has strongly condemned comments attributed to the APGA governorship candidate in Taraba State, Danjuma Usman Shiddi, describing the ongoing Wukari Flyover Project as a “white elephant project” and a misplaced priority.
President of the association, Comrade Danjuma Audu, stated this in a rejoinder to the comments, stressing that while the association welcomes constructive criticism, it rejects what it described as politically motivated attempts to undermine developmental projects designed to benefit the people.
Audu said the proposed flyover should not be viewed merely as a structure intended to address current traffic congestion, but as an infrastructure project designed to meet the future needs of Wukari as the town continues to expand.
According to him, Wukari is rapidly developing into an important historical, educational, commercial and administrative centre, particularly with the presence of the Federal University Wukari, making the provision of modern infrastructure necessary for the town’s long-term growth.
The Jukun youth leader further affirmed the association’s support for the vision and development agenda of Governor Agbu Kefas, noting that the Jukun people have every reason to be proud that one of their own occupies the highest political office in Taraba State.
He, however, emphasised that developmental projects should be subjected to constructive engagement, proper scrutiny and objective assessment rather than premature condemnation or political labelling.
Audu noted that while disagreements over government policies are inevitable in a democratic society, political competition should not lead individuals or groups to reject every major initiative simply because it is being undertaken by an administration they do not support.
He therefore appealed to political leaders, aspirants and stakeholders across party lines to exercise responsibility and restraint in their public pronouncements concerning Wukari and the Southern Taraba region.
He urged political actors to place the overall development and future prosperity of the people above partisan considerations, stressing that projects with the potential to transform communities deserve objective evaluation and constructive contributions from all stakeholders.
