FU WUKARI RAISES ALARM OVER FAKE FACEBOOK ACCOUNT IMPERSONATING VICE-CHANCELLOR
The management of the Federal University Wukari, FUW, Taraba State, has raised the alarm over a fraudulent Facebook account allegedly being operated in the name of the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Benjamin Ate Kefas.
The university warned students, staff and members of the public against interacting or conducting transactions with the operators of the account.
In a statement, the management said the impersonator created the Facebook account using the Vice-Chancellor’s name and a family photograph as the profile picture, apparently to give the account an appearance of authenticity.
The university stressed that Professor Kefas neither owns nor operates the Facebook account, describing it as fraudulent, unauthorised and in no way affiliated with the Vice-Chancellor or the institution.
Management particularly warned members of the public not to send money, disclose personal or financial information or enter into any transaction based on messages received from the account.
It cautioned that anyone engaging with the operators could be exposed to impersonation, deception and possible financial fraud.
The university advised members of the public to remain vigilant when receiving messages or requests purportedly coming from the Vice-Chancellor on social media.
It further urged students, staff and other members of the public to verify suspicious communications through the university’s recognised official channels before taking any action.
