TARABA NEWS ONLINE POLL SUGGESTS 2027 MAY BE TWO-HORSE RACE BETWEEN KEFAS, BWACHA AS FOUR OTHER CANDIDATES MAKE IMPRESSIVE OUTING
Results from the Taraba News 2027 Governorship Online Opinion Poll as at 5:00 a.m. on September 10, 2026, suggest that the race for Government House, Jalingo, may be developing into a two-horse contest between Governor Agbu Kefas of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Senator Emmanuel Bwacha of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Governor Kefas leads the online poll with 38%, while Senator Bwacha follows closely with 35%, leaving only three percentage points between the two leading candidates.
The latest figures show a tightening contest. At an earlier stage of the poll, Kefas had 40% against Bwacha’s 32%. While Kefas subsequently dropped two percentage points to 38%, Bwacha rose three percentage points to 35%, narrowing the gap from eight percentage points to just three.
FOUR OTHER CANDIDATES REGISTER SUPPORT
Beyond the two frontrunners, four other candidates among the 19 seeking the governorship also registered percentages in the online poll.
Prof. Jerome Nyameh of Accord emerged as the strongest of the other candidates with 13%, placing him third in the poll.
Danjuma Usman Shidi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, followed with 5%.
Mohammed Sani Yahya of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, and Senator Abubakar Umar Tutare of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, recorded 1% each.
The performance of the four candidates, particularly Nyameh’s 13% and Shidi’s 5%, indicates that while Kefas and Bwacha have established an early lead, there remains support for alternatives within the field.
13 CANDIDATES YET TO REGISTER A PERCENTAGE
Of the 19 governorship candidates displayed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, 13 had not registered a percentage on the Taraba News online poll as at the 5:00 a.m. reporting cutoff.
They are Nathan Sanda Jnr of the Labour Party, LP; Uba Sani Abdullahi of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP; Magaji Bulus Gago of the African Action Congress, AAC; Stephen Aboki Bayonga of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, DLA; Josiah Wukari Wasa of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP; Anas Muhammed of the Action Alliance, AA; and Ishaka Bawa of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.
Others are Henry Haniel Banti of the Action Peoples Party, APP; Abubakar Mustapha Hamman of the Action Democratic Party, ADP; Yusuf Ali of the Social Democratic Party, SDP; Kabiru Bala of the Boot Party; Hassan Abubakar Sa’ad of the Young Progressives Party, YPP; and Adamu Bello of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP.
EARLY KEFAS-BWACHA BATTLE EMERGES
The figures provide an interesting early picture of online sentiment ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Kefas and Bwacha together account for 73% of the poll, considerably ahead of the other candidates. More significantly, the movement during the polling period shows the gap between the two narrowing.
The September exercise is, however, only the first of three Taraba News online opinion polls planned ahead of the election.
The second round will be conducted in November 2026, while the third is scheduled for January 2027. The three rounds are intended to provide snapshots of how online opinion changes as political activities and campaigns intensify.
The November poll will therefore provide an opportunity to see whether Kefas consolidates his lead, Bwacha continues to gain ground, or Nyameh, Shidi and other candidates increase their share of support.
Taraba News stresses that the exercise is an independent online opinion poll based on voluntary, self-selected online participation. It is not a scientific statewide opinion survey and does not represent or predict the official outcome of the 2027 governorship election.
