Kwararafa Galaxy Club, TY Danjuma Foundation Train 64 Teachers in Takum
The Kwararafa Galaxy Club, in conjunction with the TY Danjuma Foundation, has organised a one-day refresher training programme for teachers in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, as part of efforts to strengthen teaching and learning in Mathematics and Science.
The training, which brought together teachers from primary and junior secondary schools, was designed to update participants with relevant teaching methods, improve their professional capacity and equip them with practical approaches to effectively engage learners in the classroom.
participants drawn from different categories of teachers took part in the programme. They included 20 primary school Mathematics teachers, 20 primary school Science teachers, 10 Junior Secondary School (JSS) Science teachers, 10 JSS Mathematics teachers and two teachers representing the Local Government Education Authority, among others.
Speaking during the opening of the training, the Project Officer of Kwararafa Galaxy Club, Professor Zaku Sabo, said the programme was aimed at putting teachers back on track by refreshing their knowledge and exposing them to contemporary approaches to teaching Mathematics and Science.
Professor Sabo stressed the importance of teachers in shaping the future of the country, urging participants to take the training seriously and apply the knowledge gained to improve classroom instruction.
He also charged the teachers to encourage their pupils and students to develop a strong reading culture and show greater interest in challenging subjects, particularly Mathematics and Science.
According to him, Mathematics and Science remain critical to national development and problem-solving, noting that encouraging young learners to embrace the subjects would help prepare them to contribute meaningful solutions to the challenges confronting the country.
He urged the teachers to inspire their students to study hard, ask questions, think critically and develop the confidence needed to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and other related fields.
The refresher training featured paper presentations by facilitators, interactive sessions and a question-and-answer segment, which provided participants with the opportunity to discuss challenges they encounter in their classrooms and seek practical solutions.
The programme also provided a platform for teachers to share experiences and learn from one another, with emphasis placed on effective teaching techniques, classroom engagement and strategies for improving students’ understanding of Mathematics and Science.
The State Coordinator of the TY Danjuma Foundation was also in attendance at the training, underscoring the foundation’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education and strengthening the capacity of teachers at the grassroots.
The organisers expressed optimism that the knowledge and skills acquired by the participants would be transferred to pupils and students across schools in Takum, ultimately contributing to improved learning outcomes and a stronger foundation for Science and Mathematics education in the area.
