The Executive Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, Hon. Mohammed Jirji Umar, has warned individuals, groups and bloggers against the circulation of unverified and inciting information concerning the recent breach of peace in Mbara Village, Mbamnga District.
In a press statement issued on September 18, 2026, the Chairman said the council was concerned about what it described as the reckless use of social media to circulate false information, old photographs, inciting videos, hate speeches and exaggerated reports about the crisis.
According to him, such content could undermine ongoing efforts by the Taraba State Government, security agencies, traditional institutions and the local government to restore lasting peace in the affected communities.
The Chairman said some individuals were deliberately creating tension and mistrust among residents and attempting to pitch communities against the local and state governments.
He stated that the council would no longer tolerate the circulation of content capable of aggravating the security situation.
Hon. Jirji Umar assured residents that Sardauna LGA was calm, with security agencies firmly on ground and in control of the situation.
He added that normalcy was gradually returning, while dialogue was ongoing among relevant stakeholders to resolve the issues and restore peace.
The Chairman warned that anyone found publishing, sharing or forwarding unverified, misleading or inciting content could face arrest and prosecution under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024, as well as other applicable laws relating to incitement, criminal defamation and breach of public peace.
He urged residents to disregard fake news and rely on official channels for credible information, while encouraging the public to report suspicious online activities to security agencies.
The Chairman called on citizens to use social media as a tool for promoting peace and unity rather than escalating tensions in the local government.
