The Chairman of the Taraba State Environmental Sanitation Agency, Hon. Iliya Kefas Alhaji, has been named as a respondent in a Fundamental Rights Enforcement suit filed before the Federal High Court in Jalingo Judicial Division.
The suit was instituted by Hon. Gilbert Edward Vadulle and Mr. Alexander Abednatus Ubandoma under the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009, Section 46 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, and relevant provisions of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
According to the Notice of Application contained in the court document, the applicants are seeking judicial declarations over alleged public insults, curses, threats, intimidation and degrading treatment which they claim were meted out to them on Friday, August 28, 2026, near the National Youth Service Corps Secretariat in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The applicants allege that the incident occurred in the presence and hearing of members of the public.
Among the reliefs sought before the court is a declaration concerning the alleged conduct, which the applicants contend violated their fundamental rights.
The document shows that the application is brought under the constitutional provisions governing the enforcement of fundamental rights, as well as Articles 4, 5 and 6 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The court process also indicates that attempts were made to serve the respondent with the relevant court documents. However, according to the reported bailiff’s return of service, the attempts to serve Hon. Iliya Kefas were unsuccessful.
The matter is now before the Federal High Court in Jalingo, where the applicants are seeking the court’s intervention over the allegations contained in their application.
The claims made in the suit remain allegations before the court and have not been established by a judicial finding. Hon. Iliya Kefas, as the respondent, will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations and present his defence in accordance with the law.
Further proceedings in the matter are expected to determine the issues raised by the applicants and the response of the respondent.
