The Taraba State Correspondent of THURDAY Newspaper, Comrade Wole Ayodele, has formally declared his intention to contest for the chairmanship of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Taraba State Council.
The declaration was contained in a statement signed by the Director-General of the Wole Ayodele Campaign Council, Sanee Yarima, and the Deputy Director-General, Linda Gwana.
According to the statement, Ayodele, who has over two decades of experience in journalism, is seeking to lead the union with a focus on transparency, accountability, unity and improved welfare for journalists in the state.
The campaign council also unveiled a five-point agenda which it said would guide Ayodele’s administration if elected.
The agenda includes open and transparent accounting of union funds, the introduction of insurance coverage and improved welfare packages for members, as well as regular capacity-building programmes through workshops, in-house training and scholarships.
Other areas outlined include stronger engagement with government, development partners and donor agencies, alongside plans to make the NUJ Press Centre in Jalingo more functional, befitting and capable of generating revenue for the union.
The campaign council described Ayodele as a seasoned journalist with experience across print, broadcast and online media, while highlighting his record of professional engagement and relationship-building within the media community.
The council appealed to NUJ members to approach the election based on issues, leadership capacity and professional considerations, while discouraging discrimination and other divisive sentiments.
It said the candidate’s proposed agenda was designed to contribute to the welfare of journalists and the development of the union.
The campaign council called on journalists across Taraba State to support Ayodele’s bid, describing his proposed administration as one focused on building a more inclusive and forward-looking NUJ.
The NUJ Taraba State Council election will determine the next leadership of the journalists’ union in the state.
