JALINGO — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Taraba State Command, has denied reports circulating on social media alleging that the agency uncovered a suspected “drug bunker” at the Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo.
The Command, in an official clarification signed by its Public Relations Officer, ASN Mawoh Paul Voloh, said it neither conducted an operation at the college nor issued any statement concerning the alleged discovery.
The clarification followed the circulation of a social media publication titled, “NDLEA Uncovers Suspected Drug Bunker at Taraba College of Nursing Sciences.”
The NDLEA described the report as misleading, stressing that the Command had no official record of any operation or discovery of a drug bunker at the institution or its immediate vicinity.
According to the Command, the photographs and narrative being circulated online should not be attributed to the NDLEA Taraba State Command.
The agency explained that while it is currently conducting anti-drug operations across the state under Operation Restore Order, aimed at identifying, disrupting and dismantling illicit drug activities and trafficking networks, not every image or report circulating on social media represents an official NDLEA operation or statement.
The Command warned that the publication could wrongly associate the College of Nursing and Midwifery, its management, staff and students with illicit drug activities, potentially damaging the reputation of innocent individuals and the institution.
It therefore urged members of the public and media organisations to verify information with the appropriate authorities before publishing or sharing reports concerning law enforcement activities.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to Operation Restore Order and its statutory responsibility to combat drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking across Taraba State, particularly among young people.
