JALINGO — There is relief and excitement in Taraba State as Blessing Danjuma, a young Taraba indigene who was trafficked to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, has finally returned home and reunited with her family in Jalingo.
Blessing’s return was facilitated through the collaborative efforts of the Taraba State Government, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the GAHTO Foundation in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Taraba State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, reportedly fully sponsored the cost of her return to the state.
The intervention has been welcomed as a significant step towards protecting vulnerable citizens and supporting victims of human trafficking to safely return to their families.
Special commendation has also been given to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs. Mary Sinjen, and officials of the ministry for their steadfast efforts in ensuring Blessing’s safe return.
Blessing’s journey from Abidjan to Jalingo has now ended with her reunion with her loved ones, bringing relief to her family and well-wishers.
The development has also renewed calls for sustained collaboration among government agencies, civil society organisations and international partners in combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons.
For Blessing and her family, however, the immediate message is one of relief: she is finally home.
