Taraba Police Arrest Two Suspected Female Traffickers, Rescue Three Girls
Police in Taraba State have arrested two women suspected of attempting to traffic three young girls from Jalingo to Adamawa State.
According to a report, the suspects were arrested while travelling in a commercial vehicle with the three girls, aged between five and six years.
The women were reportedly heading towards Adamawa State when the driver of the vehicle became suspicious and alerted members of his transport union, who subsequently contacted the police.
The suspects were said to have rented a room in the same compound where the parents of the children live about two weeks before the incident.
On Thursday morning, they allegedly approached the mothers of the girls and asked permission to take the children to the market. Instead, they reportedly took them to a motor park in Jalingo and arranged transportation to Adamawa State.
The rescued girls were identified as Ummul Shuaibu, Ummul Baba Gasal and Amina Abubakar.
One of the parents, Abubakar Kwalli, said the fathers of the three children were invited to the Taraba State Police Command headquarters to identify them. Their mothers were later brought in for further identification, and the children reportedly ran towards their mothers crying when they saw them.
Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, confirmed the arrest and rescue.
He said investigation into the incident was ongoing and that further details would be made available after the investigation is concluded.
