GREENLAND UNIVERSITY VISITS TARABA EDUCATION COMMISSIONER, SEEKS GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP

The management of Greenland University, Jalingo, has sought stronger collaboration with the Taraba State Government as the institution expands its academic programmes in the state.

A delegation from the private university made the request during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mike Dio Jen, at his office in Jalingo on Wednesday.

Speaking during the visit, the leader of the delegation said Greenland University was committed to contributing to the development of quality tertiary education and healthcare manpower in Taraba State.

According to him, the institution currently has more than 16 accredited programmes, including Nursing and other health-related courses.

He said the visit was aimed at formally introducing the university’s programmes and capabilities to the Ministry and exploring areas of collaboration with the state government.

The delegation commended the Ministry for its efforts towards strengthening tertiary education in the state and expressed the university’s willingness to work closely with government in achieving its educational objectives.

Responding, the Commissioner, Dr. Mike Dio Jen, welcomed the delegation and described the establishment of Greenland University as a development capable of expanding tertiary education opportunities in Taraba State.

Dio Jen said the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas places strong emphasis on education and quality standards across public and private tertiary institutions.

He urged the university to introduce programmes that respond to emerging global demands while maintaining high academic standards.

The Commissioner also directed Greenland University to formally register with the Ministry of Tertiary Education as part of the requirements for private tertiary institutions operating within the state.

He assured the institution that the state government would extend necessary cooperation to Greenland University, noting that similar collaboration had been maintained with Kwararafa University.

Dio Jen further expressed satisfaction with the calibre of personnel assembled by the institution and urged its management not to compromise academic standards as it expands its operations.

He reiterated that the Ministry would continue to supervise and engage both public and private tertiary institutions to promote quality education across Taraba State.

The visit ended with assurances from both sides to strengthen cooperation towards expanding educational opportunities and human capital development in the state.
