Maihankali Orders Strict Attendance, Threatens ‘No Work, No Pay’

The Chairman of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, Moses Maihankali, has ordered strict enforcement of punctuality and regular attendance among workers of the council, warning that employees who stay away from work could face the “No Work, No Pay” rule.
Maihankali issued the directive during an inspection of departments at the Kurmi Local Government Secretariat, where he reportedly discovered that some workers were absent from their duty posts.

The chairman carried out the inspection alongside the 10 ward councillors and departmental directors of the council.
Following his observations, Maihankali directed Departmental Supervising Officers, DSOs, to intensify monitoring of workers and maintain regular attendance records for submission through their respective departmental directors.
He said council employees must demonstrate greater commitment to their responsibilities and ensure that government services are effectively delivered to residents of Kurmi.
The chairman particularly linked the demand for improved productivity to the recent intervention by the Taraba State Government in the payment of outstanding salaries owed to local government workers.
According to him, Governor Agbu Kefas’ approval for the payment of five months’ salary arrears should be reciprocated by workers through punctuality, dedication and improved productivity.
“Government’s efforts to settle the outstanding salaries should be reciprocated through punctuality, dedication and improved productivity by council employees,” Maihankali said.
The directive signals a tougher approach by the Kurmi council administration towards absenteeism and poor work attendance at the local government secretariat.
Departmental directors at the council reportedly welcomed the chairman’s intervention and pledged their support for measures aimed at improving discipline, attendance and productivity among workers.
Maihankali has maintained that restoring discipline within the council workforce is necessary to improve service delivery and ensure residents receive value from the local government administration.
