Police Promise Transparent Probe Into Death of Officer Ejeh John in Taraba

The Taraba State Police Command has assured the family and members of the public that the circumstances surrounding the death of one of its personnel, Officer Ejeh John, will be thoroughly and transparently investigated.
In a statement issued on Sunday, September 13, 2026, the Command said the officer reportedly sustained injuries during an arrest operation and later died while receiving medical attention.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, said a suspect connected with the incident had already been arrested and was being held in police custody while investigations continued.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edwin Ogbeghagha, has directed investigators to handle the case with the seriousness it deserves and ensure strict compliance with the law and due process.
The Command said it was aware of concerns and appeals from the deceased officer’s family, colleagues and members of the public over the circumstances of his death.
It consequently assured the public that the case would neither be treated lightly nor swept under the carpet.
The police added that should investigations establish criminal responsibility against any person connected with the incident, the law would be allowed to take its course.
The Command also assured the family of the late officer of continued engagement and support, noting that appropriate welfare and administrative procedures would be pursued in accordance with existing Nigeria Police Force policies.
It appealed to members of the public to exercise patience and allow investigators to complete their work, reaffirming its commitment to justice, accountability, professionalism and respect for the rule of law.
The Command expressed condolences to the family, colleagues and loved ones of Officer Ejeh John and prayed for the repose of his soul.
