Takum Youths Eulogize Chairman Benjamin Bako Over Development Initiatives
Group highlights road projects, school rehabilitation, healthcare improvement, market remodelling in first 10 months
JALINGO/TAKUM — Youths in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State have commended the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Benjamin Bako, for what they described as significant development initiatives and people-oriented leadership within his first ten months in office.
The commendation was contained in a letter of appreciation issued by the Iron Cutters’ Club, Takum, and signed electronically by Don Kasari Ika on behalf of the group.
In the letter titled “Letter of Appreciation to an Exceptional Leader,” the youths expressed what they described as profound gratitude and admiration for the chairman’s leadership, saying his administration had demonstrated a commitment to governance focused on the needs of the people.
According to the group, the period since Bako assumed office has witnessed attention to infrastructure, education, healthcare, markets and other areas of community development.
The youths said the developments recorded during the period had contributed to renewed confidence in the ability of local government leadership to address some of the challenges confronting residents.
Road Infrastructure
One of the areas highlighted by the group is road infrastructure.
The youths stated that roads had been awarded in the local government with the intervention and support of elder statesman and former Chief of Army Staff, General Theophilus Y. Danjuma (Rtd.).
They described the road interventions as part of efforts to improve connectivity and facilitate movement within Takum, while also expressing appreciation to individuals and stakeholders supporting development initiatives in the area.
The group said improved road infrastructure could contribute to easier movement of people and goods and support economic activities across communities.
Education Gets Attention
The youths also pointed to developments in the education sector, particularly the reconstruction and remodelling of public schools.
They said the projects were aimed at creating a more conducive learning environment for pupils and students across the local government.
The group described investment in public schools as an important aspect of community development, stressing that the quality of the learning environment could have a direct bearing on the educational experience of children.
According to them, the reported interventions in schools demonstrate what they see as the administration’s attention to social infrastructure in addition to physical development.
Healthcare Facilities
Healthcare was another area identified in the letter.
The youths said healthcare facilities within the local government had received attention under the present administration, with the stated objective of improving service delivery.
They described access to functional healthcare facilities as essential to the wellbeing of residents, particularly people living in communities where access to medical services can be challenging.
The group, however, did not provide specific figures on the number of healthcare facilities affected or the total financial value of the interventions.
Takum Main Market Remodelling
The ongoing remodelling and development of the Takum Township Main Market was also listed among the initiatives the youths attributed to the administration.
The group said the project could contribute to improving the business environment and stimulating economic activities within the local government.
According to the letter, the market intervention forms part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and create better conditions for traders and residents.
The youths said the development of the market would be significant to the local economy given the role of commerce in the livelihood of many residents.
Commendation Beyond Infrastructure
Beyond the physical projects, the Iron Cutters’ Club also praised the chairman for what it described as his accessibility and responsiveness to community concerns.
The group said Bako had demonstrated willingness to engage with residents and respond to emergencies and pressing community needs.
It described his leadership approach as one characterised by accessibility, compassion and concern for the welfare of the people.
The youths further commended the chairman for what they described as his mentorship and willingness to make sacrifices in the interest of the local government.
“Meaningful Development Is Possible”
The group said the first ten months of the administration had demonstrated, in its assessment, that meaningful development could be achieved at the grassroots when leadership is accompanied by commitment and a focus on public service.
The letter stated that the administration had shown a commitment to transforming its development aspirations into projects and initiatives intended to affect the lives of residents.
The youths nevertheless framed their commendation around the projects and leadership attributes they identified, rather than providing an independent assessment of the overall performance of the local government.
Prayer for Continued Leadership
The group concluded the letter by expressing appreciation to the chairman for his service and praying for continued wisdom, strength and grace as he leads the local government.
The letter reads in part that the youths remained appreciative of Bako’s “accessibility, mentorship, sacrifices and unwavering dedication” to the advancement of Takum Local Government.
The commendation by the Iron Cutters’ Club adds to public discussion around development at the grassroots level in Takum, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, education, healthcare and commerce.
