Taraba APC Rejects Alleged Anti-Mumuye Remark, Accuses Bwacha Camp of Propaganda
JALINGO — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has rejected an alleged statement attributed to its leadership concerning the Mumuye people and the choice of a deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
The party, through its Media Directorate, described the report as false and misleading, accusing the media team of former Senator Emmanuel Bwacha of attempting to create unnecessary controversy and ethnic division within the state.
The controversy followed a report circulated by the Bwacha media team alleging that the APC State Chairman had told members of the Mumuye community that the office of Deputy Governor was not a traditional stool and that the party could choose its deputy governorship candidate from any ethnic group.
However, the APC dismissed the allegation, insisting that no such statement was made by its leadership.
The party challenged those behind the report to produce evidence, including a video, audio recording or an official statement from the party chairman or any of his aides, to establish that the alleged comment was made.
“Let the Bwacha media team do what responsible communicators do: back their claims with facts,” the party said.
The APC maintained that the allegation was an attempt to mislead the public and portray the party’s leadership as insensitive to the interests and concerns of the Mumuye people.
It stressed that the party respects all ethnic groups and communities across Taraba State and would not deliberately make statements capable of undermining peaceful coexistence among the state’s diverse population.
The party also accused the Bwacha media team of adopting a pattern of making serious political claims without providing verifiable evidence.
According to the APC, the latest allegation came shortly after the same media team allegedly attributed a statement to retired General T.Y. Danjuma without producing any video, audio recording or official statement to authenticate the claim.
The party said that after the earlier controversy, the group had now turned its attention to the APC leadership with another allegation which it described as baseless.
“This is not media work. This is desperation,” the APC Media Directorate stated.
The party urged the Bwacha media team to focus on substantive political issues and issue-based engagement rather than what it described as “lies and propaganda.”
It further called on members of the public, particularly Tarabans, to disregard the alleged statement and avoid allowing political disagreements ahead of 2027 to create ethnic tension.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to respecting every ethnic group and community in Taraba State, stressing that political competition should not be allowed to undermine the unity and peaceful coexistence of the people.
The party also maintained that the controversy would not distract it from its political activities and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
