The Taraba State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas, has through the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA) delivered relief materials to victims of the recent communal unrest that affected Mbara, Geroji and other suburbs of Mbamnga, where houses were burnt, properties destroyed, and lives lost.
We commend the steadfast leadership of His Excellency the Governor for his prompt response to the plight of the displaced.
The relief materials were presented on behalf of the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Audu Echuseh, by Mr. Benjamin Bala, Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, and were received by Hon. M J Umar, Executive Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Council, on behalf of the affected victims.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Benjamin Bala conveyed the sympathy of the State Government to the affected communities and urged community representatives to ensure judicious distribution of the materials to the intended beneficiaries.
The successful delivery was made possible through the collective efforts of all stakeholders. We specially appreciate Sardauna Stakeholders led by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps (GeeTee Ngwii), for their complementary support, coordination and commitment in ensuring safety and seamless delivery of the intervention.
Hon. M J Umar appreciated the State Government, SEMA and all stakeholders for the united response and reassured the people of Sardauna Local Government of his administration’s zero tolerance for unrest and disunity.
Furthermore, collective efforts are ongoing by the government to facilitate the safe return of citizens who took refuge in Cameroon as a result of the crisis.
SEMA remains committed to its mandate of providing timely assistance to victims of disasters and conflicts, and we pray for sustained peace on the Mambilla Plateau.
