TARABA STATE UNIVERSITY APOLOGISES TO GRADUATING STUDENTS OVER OMISSION OF FIRST-CLASS, BEST GRADUANDS

JALINGO — The Management of Taraba State University, Jalingo, has apologised to graduating students, particularly those who graduated with First-Class honours and the best graduating students at faculty, department and programme levels, following their omission from formal recognition during the university’s recently concluded 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th combined convocation ceremonies.

The university conveyed the apology in an official notice issued by the Office of the Registrar and dated September 14, 2026, addressed to all graduating students of the institution.

In the statement signed by the Registrar, Dr. Joseph U. Bitinu, Ph.D., the university management expressed regret over the development, acknowledging that the omission may have caused disappointment among the affected graduates as well as their parents, guardians, families and friends.

Management explained that the decision to abridge the convocation programme was necessitated by the need to align the ceremony with the schedule of the Visitor to the University on the day of the event.

The university stated that it recognised the significance of academic excellence and the efforts of students who distinguished themselves throughout their academic journey.

It noted that the affected graduates had worked hard and demonstrated dedication and commitment to their studies, stressing that such achievements deserved appropriate recognition.

According to the university, arrangements have therefore been made for the names of First-Class graduates and Best Graduating Students at the faculty, department and programme levels to be published through approved media outlets.

The development is expected to provide a formal platform for recognising students whose academic performances placed them among the outstanding graduates of the university.

ALUMNI INDUCTION TO BE CONDUCTED ELECTRONICALLY

In the same notice, Taraba State University also informed graduating students that their induction into the Taraba State University Alumni Association would be conducted electronically through the university’s portal.

The institution advised all graduating students to access the university portal and follow the prescribed procedures for completing the induction exercise.

The electronic process, according to the university, will enable the graduating students to formally become members of the institution’s alumni community following the completion of their studies.

The management further expressed appreciation to the graduating students for their cooperation, patience and understanding over the circumstances surrounding the convocation arrangements.

It congratulated the graduates once again on the successful completion of their academic programmes, wishing them well as they proceed to the next stage of their careers and personal endeavours.

The notice brings the university’s position on the omission into the public domain while also outlining steps being taken to ensure that the academic achievements of the affected graduates are formally recognised.
