23rd National Sports Festival Zonal Elimination Begins in Jalingo Monday
• Taraba hosts North-East team sports qualifiers from September 12–15
• Sports Commission says all arrangements are in place
The Taraba State Sports Development Commission says all necessary arrangements have been concluded for the successful hosting of the Zonal Team Sports Elimination ahead of the 23rd National Sports Festival.
Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Alex Maiangwa, disclosed this in Jalingo, saying the state is fully prepared for the commencement of the programme.

According to information released for the event, the zonal elimination is being organised by the National Sports Commission in conjunction with the Taraba State Government and is scheduled to take place in Jalingo from September 12 to 15, 2026.
Dr. Maiangwa said preparations have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the various team-sport elimination events, with participating teams expected to compete for qualification to the main National Sports Festival.
He said hosting the programme provides another opportunity for Taraba State to demonstrate its capacity to organise major sporting activities while promoting sports development and providing greater exposure for athletes.
The Executive Secretary assured participating athletes and officials of the state’s readiness to receive them, stressing that relevant arrangements for the successful conduct of the competition have been put in place.
The zonal elimination is an important qualifying stage for team sports, as successful teams will progress to represent the zone at the 23rd National Sports Festival.

The competition is expected to attract athletes, coaches, officials and other stakeholders to Jalingo during the four-day programme.
Dr. Maiangwa called on sports enthusiasts in Jalingo and other parts of Taraba State to support the participating athletes and contribute to making the event a successful sporting outing.
