The Commissioner for Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, Taraba State, Dr Augustina Godwin, has attended the 2026 Second Edition of the Unity Quiz Series, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education (MSTVE), with three secondary schools representing the three senatorial zones of the state.
The quiz competition brought together selected students from Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Jalingo, representing the Northern Zone; Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Mutum Biyu, representing the Central Zone; and Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Wukari East, representing the Southern Zone.
The competition provided an avenue for students to demonstrate their knowledge, intellectual abilities, confidence and commitment to academic excellence in English Language, Mathematics, ICT and Civic Education, while also promoting healthy competition and unity among secondary school students across Taraba State.
At the end of the keenly contested quiz, GSSS Jalingo emerged as the overall winner with 58 points, followed by GDSS Wukari East, which scored 54 points, while GDSS Mutum Biyu came third with 48 points.
Speaking at the event, Dr Augustina Godwin commended the organisers for creating a platform that encourages students to develop their academic abilities and cultivate a culture of learning and healthy competition.
She noted that competitions such as the Unity Quiz Series complement the efforts of the Taraba State Government under the leadership of Governor Dr Agbu Kefas to strengthen education and provide students with opportunities to excel.
The Commissioner encouraged the participating students to remain committed to their studies, describing academic competitions as important avenues for discovering and nurturing young talents.
She also congratulated the three participating schools for their performances and urged other schools across the state to embrace similar academic activities.
The participating schools received cash prizes and books as part of the awards for the competition. The stated cash prizes were ₦250,000 for first position, ₦150,000 for second position and ₦100,000 for third position, alongside book prizes.
The Unity Quiz Series is expected to continue serving as a platform for promoting academic excellence, intellectual development and unity among secondary school students in Taraba State.
