Eight travellers have reportedly been killed and another person injured following a fresh attack along the Wukari–Rafin Kada road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The incident, according to reports, occurred as travellers were making their way along the route, which has witnessed recurring attacks linked to the longstanding Jukun–Tiv conflict in southern Taraba.
The attackers were reported to have opened fire on the travellers, leaving eight people dead and another injured.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of commuters and residents using the Wukari–Rafin Kada axis, particularly amid persistent tensions and retaliatory attacks in communities around the area.
A security situation report on previous violence along the same corridor had also recorded an attack in which eight people were killed, with several others, including women and children, sustaining injuries. The victims were reported to be of Jukun and Fulani backgrounds.
The renewed violence is likely to heighten calls for stronger security measures along major roads and vulnerable communities in Wukari and neighbouring areas.
Residents and travellers have continued to express concerns over attacks on major routes, with community members urging security agencies to intensify patrols and take proactive measures to prevent further loss of lives.
The latest attack also comes against the backdrop of continuing insecurity associated with the Jukun–Tiv conflict, which has periodically resulted in killings and displacement across parts of southern Taraba.
