FG Empowers Taraba Women Journalists With N500,000 Enterprise Grant

JALINGO — The Federal Government has strengthened its support for women-led initiatives in Taraba State with the presentation of a N500,000 Enterprise Support Grant to the Taraba State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).

The grant was presented on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, by the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, during the ongoing 26th National Council on Women Affairs, Child Advancement and Social Development in Jalingo.

According to the minister, the financial support forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment, strengthen livelihoods and support women-led enterprises and organisations across the country.

Receiving the grant on behalf of NAWOJ Taraba, the association’s State Chairperson, Comrade Janet Nyajon Audu, who was represented by the Secretary, Doris Jauro Filbert, expressed appreciation to the ministry for the gesture.

Audu described the intervention as an important recognition of the contribution of women to national development, particularly women journalists who play significant roles in public enlightenment, advocacy and the promotion of issues affecting women, children and vulnerable members of society.

She assured the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development that the grant would be used productively to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the association, improving members’ capacity and enhancing their welfare.

The NAWOJ leadership also noted that supporting women journalists has broader implications for society, given their role in amplifying issues around gender equality, child protection, social welfare, economic empowerment and community development.

The presentation took place as stakeholders gathered in Jalingo for the 26th National Council on Women Affairs, which is focused on strengthening families, advancing the care economy and promoting an inclusive social protection system for women, children, families and other vulnerable groups.

The N500,000 intervention is expected to provide additional support for NAWOJ Taraba’s activities and contribute to efforts aimed at improving the economic and professional wellbeing of its members.

The development further highlights the growing emphasis on women’s economic participation and the role of professional women’s organisations in advancing social and community development.
