Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has said he believes his emergence as governor was ordained by God for a specific purpose, assuring that he remains committed to using his position to serve the people and contribute to the development of the state.
Governor Kefas stated this on Thursday at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo when he received the National Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop David Bakari, and members of his delegation.
The governor said his understanding of leadership goes beyond the political office, describing his responsibility as a mandate that requires spiritual commitment, discipline and a sense of service to the people.
He explained that his regular commitment to prayer, including all-night prayer programmes in his church, was part of his efforts to maintain a strong spiritual connection and seek divine guidance in the discharge of his responsibilities.
Kefas said he believed that leaders needed spiritual direction in order to make decisions that would positively affect the lives of the people they were entrusted to serve.
Security Remains a Priority
Speaking on the achievements and priorities of his administration, Governor Kefas highlighted the steps taken to strengthen security across Taraba State.
He noted that the establishment of the 10 Division of the Nigerian Army in Jalingo had further strengthened the state’s security architecture and improved the capacity of security agencies to respond to emerging challenges.
The governor said his administration would continue to support initiatives aimed at creating a peaceful and secure environment necessary for economic activities, investment and development.
According to him, peace and security remain fundamental to the success of other government programmes, as development cannot be sustained in an environment where people feel unsafe.
Airport Development
Governor Kefas also disclosed that work on the installation of night-landing facilities at the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo had reached about 90 per cent completion.
He said the project was expected to improve the operational capacity of the airport and enhance connectivity to and from Taraba State.
The governor further revealed plans by the state government to construct an aircraft fuelling facility at the airport.
He said the proposed facility would support flight operations and contribute to improving aviation services in the state.
The governor linked the airport developments to the administration’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and create an environment capable of supporting economic growth and investment.
PFN Conference
Speaking earlier, the National Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop David Bakari, explained that the delegation was in Taraba as part of preparations for the PFN Biannual Conference scheduled to take place in Jalingo in March 2027.
Bakari expressed appreciation to the Taraba State Government for its relationship with the Christian community and for supporting initiatives that promote peace and development.
The PFN delegation’s visit also provided an opportunity for discussions around the upcoming conference and the role of faith-based organisations in promoting peace, unity and social development.
Governor Kefas assured the PFN leadership of his administration’s continued commitment to initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence and development across the state.
He also expressed appreciation to the fellowship for its prayers and support, saying partnerships between government and faith-based organisations could contribute to strengthening peace and unity in Taraba.
The meeting ended with both sides reaffirming the importance of collaboration in promoting peace, security, spiritual development and sustainable development in the state.
