Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has opened discussions with the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, on measures to attract credible investors and accelerate the development of the state’s largely untapped mineral resources.

The discussions took place during a courtesy visit by Governor Kefas to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development in Abuja, where the two leaders explored stronger collaboration between the Taraba State Government and the Federal Government in the mining sector.

A major focus of the meeting was the creation of a secure, stable and investor-friendly environment capable of encouraging responsible private-sector participation in mineral exploration and development across Taraba.

The state government said the engagement forms part of its broader effort to diversify Taraba’s economy by unlocking opportunities in sectors with the potential to generate investment, employment and revenue.

Governor Kefas has maintained that private investment should play a major role in harnessing the state’s economic potential, but within a regulatory framework that protects host communities and ensures that local populations benefit from activities taking place in their areas.

The Abuja meeting is therefore expected to strengthen cooperation between federal and state authorities in addressing some of the challenges confronting mineral development, including security, regulation and investor confidence.

Taraba is believed to possess significant solid mineral potential, but much of the sector remains underdeveloped, leaving opportunities for increased exploration, processing and value addition.

The Kefas administration is seeking to change that situation by positioning the state as an attractive destination for responsible mining investment while encouraging development that can translate mineral resources into jobs, businesses and internally generated revenue.

The government also wants investment in the sector to go beyond extraction, with greater emphasis on sustainable development and benefits for communities where mining activities take place.

According to a statement by the Taraba State Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Zainab Jalingo, Esq., the engagement with Alake represents another step towards establishing Taraba as an investment-ready destination for mineral development.

The success of the initiative, however, will ultimately be measured by how quickly the high-level discussions translate into actual investments, responsible mining operations, jobs and measurable economic benefits for Taraba residents.

Taraba News understands that closer cooperation with the Federal Ministry could become particularly important as the state seeks to move its mineral resources from largely untapped potential to productive economic assets.
