MTN Network Goes Down in Jalingo, Businesses, Subscribers Stranded
JALINGO — Business activities and communication were disrupted across parts of Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, on Thursday following a prolonged outage on the MTN network.
The disruption, which lasted for several hours, reportedly affected voice calls, SMS and mobile internet services, leaving many subscribers unable to communicate with family members, colleagues, customers and business associates.
Checks across parts of the state capital showed that attempts to make calls or access mobile data through the network were unsuccessful during the period of the outage.
The development caused significant inconvenience for residents, particularly traders and business owners who depend on telecommunications services for daily transactions, customer relations and online activities.
A spare parts dealer, Uche Alexander, said the disruption had negatively affected his business, particularly his ability to communicate with suppliers and business partners.
He appealed to MTN to urgently identify the cause of the problem and restore reliable services to affected subscribers.
Another resident, Paulina Kamuel, described the outage as a major setback for residents and businesses in Jalingo, noting that many people rely heavily on the network for communication and commercial transactions.
According to her, the prolonged interruption had left several businesses struggling to operate normally.
The disruption also reportedly affected subscribers who rely on mobile internet for banking transactions, digital payments, social media, online businesses and access to essential services.
The incident highlights the growing dependence of residents and businesses on telecommunications networks, particularly as digital communication has become an integral part of commercial activities.
As of the time of filing this report, the immediate cause of the outage was not known, and there was no official explanation available regarding the disruption in Jalingo.
