Taraba SEMA Moves to Connect Vulnerable Households to FG’s HOPE Social Protection Programme

The Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has moved to strengthen access to federal social protection interventions for vulnerable households in the state following its participation in a two-day stakeholders’ workshop on the HOPE Social Protection Project in Abuja.
The Executive Secretary of Taraba SEMA participated in the workshop organised by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction at Villa Park Hotel, Abuja.
The programme, themed “From Palliatives to Pathways,” brought together stakeholders to examine strategies for moving social interventions beyond temporary relief towards more sustainable support for poor and vulnerable households.
Discussions at the workshop focused on implementation plans, coordination among relevant government institutions and mechanisms for expanding access to social safety nets under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Stakeholders also examined how social protection interventions could be better coordinated to ensure that intended beneficiaries, particularly the poorest and most vulnerable households, receive necessary assistance.
Following the workshop, the Executive Secretary reaffirmed Taraba SEMA’s commitment to working with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and other development partners to ensure eligible residents of Taraba State benefit from the HOPE Social Protection Project.
The agency said the collaboration would focus on timely interventions and inclusive programmes capable of reaching vulnerable households across the state.
The development could be significant for Taraba, where many households continue to contend with economic hardship, displacement, emergencies and other vulnerabilities requiring both immediate humanitarian assistance and longer-term livelihood support.
The “From Palliatives to Pathways” approach is expected to shift greater attention towards interventions capable of helping vulnerable citizens move beyond dependence on short-term relief.
Taraba SEMA said its participation was also in line with the social intervention and humanitarian priorities of the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas.
The agency pledged to continue strengthening partnerships with federal institutions and other stakeholders to improve social protection and poverty-reduction interventions available to vulnerable people in Taraba State.
