NYCN COLLABORATES WITH HOPE RECANDLE NETWORK TO CURB DRUGS AND CULTISM ACTIVITIES IN TARABA TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Taraba State Chapter, in collaboration with the Hope Recandle Network, has organised the “Healthy Minds, Brighter Future” youth sensitization programme at Zaku Hall, Taraba State Polytechnic, Suntai, Jalingo Campus. The programme brought together students and youth representatives from various tertiary institutions across the Jalingo metropolis for meaningful discussions on issues affecting young people, with particular attention to drugs, anti-occultic activities in Taraba tertiary institutions, academic excellence and building a productive future.
The NYCN Taraba State delegation was led by the State Chairman, Comr. Hapson Haruna Babale, who served as the keynote speaker. In his address, the Chairman encouraged students to remain disciplined, protect their character and stay focused on their education and future aspirations. He cautioned against cultism, substance abuse, peer pressure and other social vices that can negatively affect the future of young people, urging them to channel their energy and talents towards activities that promote peace, growth and positive contribution to society.
The programme also featured resource persons and representatives from relevant institutions, including officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who provided useful insights on substance abuse prevention and the dangers associated with harmful social activities. Other speakers engaged participants on academic excellence, mental wellbeing, resilience, personal development, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship, allowing for meaningful interaction and exchange of ideas on some of the challenges confronting young people today.
The sensitization programme focused on four major areas: substance abuse and anti-cultism awareness, academic excellence and discipline, mental wellbeing and resilience, and skills acquisition and entrepreneurship. Participants were encouraged to make responsible choices, resist negative influences, pursue their education with commitment, develop healthy coping mechanisms and acquire relevant skills that can strengthen their capacity for self-reliance and meaningful participation in society.
