PSC DEPLOYS OGBEGHAGHA AS NEW TARABA POLICE COMMISSIONER, TASKS HIM ON NEUTRALITY AHEAD OF 2027

The Police Service Commission, PSC, has approved the posting of Commissioner of Police Edwin Ogbeghagha as the new Commissioner of Police for the Taraba State Command.

The Commission announced the deployment on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, following an interview session at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

The session was presided over by the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), mni, alongside other senior officials of the Commission.

The PSC charged the new Taraba Police Commissioner to maintain a high level of professionalism, neutrality and fairness in the discharge of his responsibilities, particularly as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The Commission stressed that the police must remain impartial while ensuring the protection of lives and property and maintaining public confidence in law enforcement.

CP Ogbeghagha brings more than 25 years of policing experience to the Taraba State Command.

Before his latest posting, he served as Force Provost Marshal at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, a position he had occupied since March 2026.

A graduate of the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1990, Ogbeghagha has held several operational and command positions during his career.

These include serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Zones 8 and 17, Area Commander in Enugu, Abia and Anambra States, as well as Commissioner of Police in charge of Community Policing at the Force Headquarters.

He also has international peacekeeping experience, having served on United Nations missions in Kosovo between 2000 and 2002 and Darfur, Sudan, between 2013 and 2016.

Also involved in the process leading to his approval and posting were Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (JSC, Rtd), Commissioner I, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Esq., Secretary to the Commission.

The deployment places CP Ogbeghagha at the helm of policing in Taraba at a critical period, with security management, crime prevention and maintaining neutrality during the build-up to the 2027 elections expected to be among the major responsibilities confronting the Command.
